Important: Red Deer Lake School - Online Learning Grade 7-9

March 28, 7:00pm

To our Red Deer Lake School community,

An individual associated with Red Deer Lake School who received a COVID-19 positive test result, has now been confirmed as having a COVID-19 variant of concern (VOC).  AHS will be providing our school with an information letter, we will share this with families once available.

It is important to note that this is the same case we notified you about earlier today – NOT an additional case in relation to our school.

Foothills School Division has provided AHS with a list of all close contacts associated with this case.  Public Health will be following up with all identified individuals to provide additional information on testing recommendations and quarantine requirements.  More information on COVID-19 variants can be found at: alberta.ca/covid-19-variants.aspx.  You can reference School Outbreak number 2021-3528 for priority testing.

Reminder: All Grade 7-9 students will temporarily transition from in-person to online learning for Monday March 29, 2021.  Families learning online can expect to receive an email from your teacher early Monday morning.

We truly appreciate the ongoing support of the entire Red Deer Lake School community and staff team as we navigate these uncertain times together.  We remain committed to ensuring you have timely and accurate information so you can continue to make decisions for your family.

As always, please contact us if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you once again for partnering with us in your child's education.

Sincerely,

Chris Fuzessy, Superintendent of Schools
Shannon Culbert, Red Deer Lake School Principal

To our Red Deer Lake School community,

A case of COVID-19 has been diagnosed in an individual who was within Red Deer Lake School. As always, our thoughts remain with this individual and their family.  We wish them a safe and speedy recovery.

Out of respect to privacy and in accordance with AHS guidelines, we cannot disclose personal health information of any individual.  However, we are able to share that we learned of this positive COVID-19 case the afternoon of March 28, 2021.  We understand that the individual was last in the school on Thursday March 25, 2021.

Public Health, supported by Foothills School Division, has informed all individuals identified as being a close contact with this case.  Resources are available to support your family from the Calgary Rural Primary Care Network.

Please note that in order to meet operational needs, ALL Grade 7-9 students at Red Deer Lake School will temporarily transition from in-person to online learning beginning Monday March 29, 2021.  In-person learning will resume for these students on Monday April 12, 2021.  We understand and respect that this may be challenging for families, please know that you may be eligible for federal support through the Canada Recovery Caregiving Benefit or the Canada Recovery Sickness Benefit.

We remind families to monitor for any signs or symptoms of COVID-19 using the Alberta Health Daily Checklist.  If you or a member of your family has any of the symptoms of illness listed, please fill out the online Alberta Health Services COVID-19 self-assessment or call Health Link at 811.

The health and safety of our students, staff, and community is paramount. We know this news can be distressing and supports are available.  You are encouraged to visit our Parent Learning Link and Student Learning Link.

Please rest assured that we will continue to work closely with Alberta Health Services and the Medical Officer of Health in the Calgary Zone to ensure that we follow their ongoing recommendations.  Please do not hesitate to reach out to your school principal or myself with any questions you may have.  Thank you for your continued support.

Please contact us if you have any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Chris Fuzessy, Superintendent of Schools
Shannon Culbert, Red Deer Lake School Principal
