Important: COVID Outbreak - Red Deer Lake School

To our Red Deer Lake School community,

A case of COVID-19 has been diagnosed in an individual who was within Red Deer Lake School. As always, our thoughts remain with this individual and their family.  We wish them a safe and speedy recovery.

Out of respect to privacy and in accordance with AHS guidelines, we cannot disclose personal health information of any individual.  However, we are able to share that we learned of this positive COVID-19 case the afternoon of April 30, 2021.  We understand that the individual was last in the school on Friday April 23, 2021.

Please note:

  • In order to meet operational needs, all Grade 7-9 students at Red Deer Lake School will continue with online learning the week of May 3, 2021.  In-person learning is now expected to resume for these students on Monday May 10, 2021.
     
  • Grade 7-9 students who have not been directed to self-isolate with complex needs, who may require socio-emotional support, and/or students who require specialized equipment to continue their studies can contact the school to schedule their attendance with all applicable health guidelines in place.
     
  • A school outbreak has been declared by the Chief Medical Officer of Health.  We have been assigned a School Outbreak / EI Number (2021-3528), please reference this number when booking a test for faster results.

Public Health, supported by Foothills School Division, has informed all individuals identified as being a close contact with this case.  The health and safety of our students, staff, and community is paramount and supports remain available.  You are encouraged to visit our Parent Learning Link, Student Learning Link, or review the resources available from the Calgary Rural Primary Care Network.

We remind families to monitor for any signs or symptoms of COVID-19 using the Alberta Health Daily Checklist.  If you or a member of your family has any of the symptoms of illness listed, please fill out the online Alberta Health Services COVID-19 self-assessment or call Health Link at 811.

Please rest assured that we will continue to work closely with Alberta Health Services and the Medical Officer of Health in the Calgary Zone to ensure that we follow their ongoing recommendations.  Please do not hesitate to reach out to your school principal or myself with any questions you may have.  Thank you for your continued support.

Students with complex needs, students requiring socio-emotional support and students who may require specialized equipment to continue their studies and who have not been directed to self-isolate can contact the school to schedule their attendance with all applicable health guidelines in place.   

Please know that you may be eligible for federal support through the Canada Recovery Caregiving Benefit or the Canada Recovery Sickness Benefit.

We understand and respect that this may be challenging for families and students.  Foothills School Division remains in frequent communication with our provincial partners.  Decisions continue to be based on enabling continuity of learning while focusing on the safety and well-being of our students and staff.  We evaluate each day and take into consideration student absentee numbers, students and staff who may be affected by self-isolation orders, and the number of COVID-19 cases within our schools and community.

To our Red Deer Lake School community,

A case of COVID-19 has been diagnosed in an individual who was within Red Deer Lake School. As always, our thoughts remain with this individual and their family. We wish them a safe and speedy recovery.

Out of respect to privacy and in accordance with AHS guidelines, we cannot disclose personal health information of any individual. However, we are able to share that we learned of this positive COVID-19 case late the evening of April 25, 2021. We understand that the individual was last in the school on Thursday April 22, 2021.

Public Health, supported by Foothills School Division, has informed all individuals identified as being a close contact with this case. Resources are available to support your family from the Calgary Rural Primary Care Network.

Please note that in order to meet operational needs, All Grade 7-9 students at Red Deer Lake School will temporarily transition from in-person to online learning beginning Monday April 26, 2021. Initial online learning plans will begin on Tuesday. In-person learning is expected to resume for these students on Monday May 3, 2021. We will confirm the timeline for a return to in person learning by the end of this week. Students with complex needs, students requiring socio-emotional support and students who may require specialized equipment to continue their studies and who have not been directed to self-isolate can contact the school to schedule their attendance with all applicable health guidelines in place.

We understand and respect that this may be challenging for families and students. Please know that throughout the pandemic, our decisions have been based on the priority of safeguarding the safety and wellbeing of students and staff as well as enabling a continuity of learning. This decision is made through that lens and also includes consideration of student absentee numbers as well as the large number of staff affected by a directive to self isolate as a result of this case.
